Year 1
Miss Shine
Maths
We used 20 counters to see if we could make equal groups of 2, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 10. We found out that some groups could be made equal but some couldn’t.
Science
We have been busy planting sunflower seeds. We can’t wait to watch them grow.
Art
Over the next few weeks we are practising sketching and drawing. We were brilliant at using different pencils shades to match the tones.
Science
We loved the Science Dome! We had an ‘under the sea’ experience and learnt about different sea creatures.
P.E.
We love playing 3-tees cricket and each week, our skills have been improving.
DT
We have been learning all about healthy eating and made our own delicious fruit salads.
Karate
We were very lucky to experience a karate workshop and how to defend ourselves.
Science
We went on a bug hunt around the playground to see what we could find.
Art Exhibition
We had a wonderful time walking through our school art exhibition and exploring the beautiful artwork of each class.
History
This half term we are learning all about the wonderful Mary Seacole. This week we discovered some of the important events in her life, before, during and after the Crimean War. In groups we made a chronological timeline of these events.
Art
This half term we will be creating clay tiles. This week our focus was on textures and what they are. Our task was to take rubbings from different textures around the classroom, using crayons. We created rubbings from things such as Lego, a mat, stickle bricks, toy roof tiles, shells and hundreds squares. They look fabulous!
Geography
We’ve been learning about the journey of a letter and how we send and receive post. We enjoyed writing our own letters and posting them home to our family.
Tennis
Blackacre had lots of fun playing tennis this morning!
In Computing we are learning to know how to use tools to change an image
We are learning to describe what makes a good photograph, we then added them to a PicCollage page
We are learning to use a digital device to take a photograph
English
We learnt about information books and created our own one about bats.
Science
Today we learnt about products that are made of wood. We then did an experiment making a bridge out of paper. At first, the flat piece of paper wasn’t strong enough to hold a toy train but when we rolled the paper, it was strong enough.
P.E.
Today we performed a short dance with a clear start, middle and end. We thought about the scene from The Jungle Book where Mowgli says goodbye to Baloo and how they felt. We then performed some actions with our partner to perform the scene.
English
We learnt what a dictionary is and how to use it.
Art
Today we learnt about an artist from Switzerland called Paul Klee. He also enjoyed using primary and secondary colours to express his feelings through art. We made our very own tint paintings by choosing a colour to paint a strip and for each strip we added a bit more white to make it lighter. Beautiful tint paintings! 🤩
History
We continued learning about The Gunpowder Plot and today we focused on problems that the plotters faced. In groups we acted out some ideas that the plotters might’ve had to get the barrels of gunpowder to the Houses of Parliament. We also enjoyed our workshop where we dressed up as Guy Fawkes, Bodyguards and the other plotters.
