Computing - Using software to edit images

We have learned how to edit images using Paint.net. We could change the colour, add or remove parts of the image, crop, and rotate the image.

Design Technology - food from the USA - Corn Bread

Moving Monsters - We created pneumatic systems using syringes, tubes and balloons. We designed monsters with moving parts which we operated with our pneumatic systems.

Harewood Class 2022/2023

Year 3/4

Mrs Farley

In computing this spring term we are learning to identify that accuracy in programming is important, create a program in a text-based language and explain what ‘repeat’ means. We have used logo to create basis shapes and Mandala patterns.

How to Help Your Children

We have been consolidating our knowledge of symmetry in Maths. We challenged each other to reflect our festive designs through a vertical line of symmetry. Do you like our Christmas symmetry-trees?

In Computing this term we have been learning how to record and edit voices to create a podcast about places in Theydon Bois. We used Audacity to record and edit our voices. We have also added background music.

We learned several Christmas poems and analysed the structure, the rhythm and rhyme before practising them for performance. We evaluated eachother's performances paying attention to pitch, pace, rhythm, volume and expression.

Stone Age Day

A Travelling Natural History Museum visited years 3 and 4 last week.  Children had the opportunity to meet Cave Man Pete who showed them real and reconstructed artefacts from the Stone Age. They learned about the mega fauna Stone Age people hunted (and were hunted by)!

There was much excitement at the chance to take part in an archaeological dig and we were amazed to uncover the remains of a sabre tooth cat. Everyone had the chance to make plaster casts of fossilised animal footprints and to try out their archery skills.  Under cover of darkness, the children recreated cave paintings based on photos of the Lascaux Cave. Stone Age jewellery was a real hit and children enjoyed personalising their necklaces with decorated 'bones' and 'teeth' made from card.

A fascinating and informative day was had by all!
